People living in assisted living really look forward to their newsletter every fortnight or once a month. A printed version that they can keep in their room, read at their leisure, and revisit any time. So what makes an interesting and
engaging newsletter that your residents will genuinely love?
Throughout this post, I’ll mention our full library of monthly newsletter templates, available for Premium Members. You can browse them here: 👇

These templates can help you plan, design, and format your newsletter with ease.

Share What’s Been Happening in the Facility
People love seeing articles about what has taken place since the last newsletter. This might include:
- A theme day
- A visiting concert
- A cooking group
- Craft activities
- Special celebrations
Showcase a few photos of everyone enjoying themselves — this not only keeps families informed, but it encourages residents to join in next time these activities appear on the calendar.

Include Next Month’s Activity Calendar
A printed activity calendar for the coming month is essential. Clearly list:
- Which activities run on which days
- The start times
- Any special theme days coming up
This helps residents plan their month and gives them something to look forward to.
You can also format your calendar beautifully using one of our ready-to-use templates: 👇 https://memorylanetherapy.com/resources-and-templates/

Highlight “Coming Events”
Make sure to promote upcoming special occasions with a short write-up and photos, such as:
- Concerts
- Mother’s Day or Father’s Day
- Pet therapy visits
- Show days
- Cultural celebrations
A “Coming Events” section builds excitement and helps residents feel more involved.

A Word from the Resident Chaplain
If your facility has a Chaplain, invite them to contribute a short, uplifting message each month. This could include:
- A personal reflection
- A simple story
- A meaningful Bible verse
- Dates and times of upcoming church services
It adds warmth and familiarity to your newsletter.

Add Puzzles, Jokes, and Light Entertainment
Residents love something fun to flip through! Consider including:
- A crossword puzzle
- A word search
- Funny jokes
- A light-hearted cartoon
These small touches bring smiles and make the newsletter feel more interactive.

Feature a Resident and Staff Member of the Month
This is always a favourite section. Interview each person and include:
- A photo
- Their hobbies
- Memories from home or work life
- Achievements
- Family life
- Interesting stories
It helps build connection and community within your home.

Advertise the Next Resident Meeting
Always include the date, time, and location of the next Residents’ Meeting. This encourages participation and ensures everyone has the opportunity to have their say.

Deliver Hard Copies — and Email a Copy to Families
Print your newsletter double-sided, staple it together, and deliver it to residents’ rooms. Also email a copy to families and friends so they can stay informed about what’s happening in their loved one’s home.

Use a Template to Make the Process Easier
Creating a newsletter from scratch every month can be time-consuming, so using a professional template makes the process much smoother.
You’ll find newsletter templates for every month of the year — fully editable and designed for aged care — right here: 👉 https://memorylanetherapy.com/resources-and-templates/
These templates help you stay consistent and save valuable time.
