Day Spa for Mothers Day

Activities for Seniors | By Debbie Davison
While working in Aged Care we decided one Mothers Day to create a Day Spa where all our ladies could come and be spoilt and pampered for the afternoon and it was a huge hit!
We created our Day Spa year after year because everyone loved it so much.

We had a great activity room and we decorated it to look like a day spa bringing in items from our homes. Paintings, candles, chandeliers and oil burners to create an upmarket space where everyone felt spoilt.

We played relaxing music and had seating for around 40 ladies placed around our Day Spa.

We sent all our ladies invitations to attend the day spa. All our ladies were greeted at the entrance and offered champagne or a sparkling drink in a champagne flute.

They were taken inside and seated with other ladies so small groups could talk and socialize together.

We had activity staff and volunteers mingle with the ladies and give shoulder massages, head massages, hand massages with sweet smelling lotions.

No one had to be a qualified masseur but a couple of our staff had experience and gave us all suggestions on simple and pleasurable techniques to use. We used massage gloves that were applied to our ladies backs as they sat in their chairs.

We also used orgasmatrons for head massages, they are very affordable to buy and got lots of giggles. We told the ladies they could not go home without experiencing an orgasmatron.

We had a trolley of nibbles, cheese, crackers, sweet and savory treats which a volunteer pushed around our Day Spa offering to our ladies. Also more refreshing drinks and tea and coffee on offer.

Everyone got shoulder, head or hand massage.

On leaving our day spa everyone was given a single flower to take back to their room.

The ladies enjoyed this experience so much and talked about this special Mother’s Day pamper for weeks.

Hi Debbie, My name is Nancy Allen and I am so thankful for your inspiring dvd"s and the inspiration that you have provided. My mother is in an assisted living home and I have been helping the activities director by meeting with the residents twice a month. I have found that they really need " one on one" interaction to stay interested and I think your dvd"s are just the ticket! Can't wait to receive them. I will let you know how it goes. God bless you for your love of the elderly. They are precious and so many have been forgotten.
